Real Talk
Elijah had just pulled off the most dramatic miracle of the Old Testament - fire from heaven, the false prophets defeated, the crowd back on Israel's side. And then one queen sent him a threatening message and he ran into the desert and asked God to let him die.
God didn't rebuke him. He fed him and told him the journey ahead was too long to do on empty.
Then Elijah walked forty days to Horeb and went into a cave. God sent wind that split rocks - not there. Then earthquake - not there. Then fire - not there. Then a thin silence. That was it. Elijah covered his face and went to stand at the entrance.
The confession "truly you are the Son of God" in the Gospel comes in the boat, after Peter sinks and gets caught and the storm stops. Not on the mountain. In the boat. After the whole mess.
That seems to be how it works. The real thing comes in the quiet after the dramatic thing. Not instead of it - after it.
Your Challenge
Interior: Think about a time when you expected God to show up in a big clear way and instead something small happened - and that turned out to be the actual thing. Or a time when the real encounter came in the ordinary place after the spectacular one. Name it. Then ask: where is the thin silence in your life right now that might be worth paying attention to?

Lord, let me hear the small voice. I have been listening for the earthquake. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us. Amen.
