Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today's Readings

Terror on every side. Jeremiah's situation is the situation Jesus describes for the disciples being sent out: friends watching for the misstep, the conspiracy forming, the adversaries multiplying. And then: but the Lord is with me like a mighty champion. Both are true simultaneously. The terror does not disappear. The champion is present within it.
Do not be afraid. Jesus says it twice in this passage - and the ground he gives both times is the Father's specific attention: the sparrow does not fall without his knowledge, the hairs are all counted. The precision of the Father's knowing is the ground of the do-not-fear.
In your twenties the fears are real - the career uncertainty, the relationship unknowns, the questions about belonging and direction. Jesus does not dismiss them. He reframes them: those who can kill the body cannot kill the soul. The Father who counts your hairs knows your fears by name. The grace of God overflows beyond the transgression.
The Challenge
Name your specific fear this week. Then bring it to the Father who has counted your hairs and knows your sparrow. Receive the do-not-fear as a fact about the Father's attention, not a command to feel different. The terror on every side and the but-the-Lord-is-with-me can both be spoken in the same prayer.
One Prayer
Lord, terror on every side - and you with me like a mighty champion. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in you. Amen.
