Today's Word
Today's Word
Adam had everything and fell. Jesus had nothing and stood. Three temptations — bread, spectacle, power — and Jesus beat all three the same way: "It is written" (Genesis 3:1-7, Matthew 4:1-11).
Real Talk
The devil doesn't show up with horns and a pitchfork. He shows up with a reasonable offer: "You're hungry — eat." "You're scared — test God." "You want something — compromise." Every temptation sounds like common sense.
Jesus had been fasting forty days. He was starving. And the devil said, "Make bread." Totally reasonable, right? But Jesus knew the difference between a need and a trap. He knew that saying yes to the easy thing meant saying no to the right thing.
You face the same three temptations every day: satisfy yourself now (even if it costs you later), demand proof instead of trusting (even when you already have evidence), and trade your integrity for something shiny (even when you know the price). Jesus beat all three with one weapon: the Word of God.
One Prayer
Jesus, the temptations I face don't look evil. They look easy. Help me see the trap. Give me the right words to say no when I need to. Amen.
Your Challenge
Memorize one verse this week. Just one. Write it on your hand, your mirror, your lock screen. When temptation shows up — and it will — use it. Jesus did. "It is written." That's the whole strategy.
Also: Today is the Rite of Election in many places — adults preparing for baptism at Easter are formally called by the Church. If you know anyone being baptized this Easter, text them today. Tell them you're praying for them.
You are not alone. Submit your intentions and they'll be carried to Holy Hour this Sunday.
