Real Talk
They were all in one place together. That is the condition. The Spirit comes when the community is gathered - not scattered, not individually checked in, but in one place, together. Wind fills the house. Fire on each one. They speak languages they do not know. People from across the ancient world hear the mighty acts of God in their own language. Astounded.
Paul says: to each manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. Not for your own benefit - for the body around you. The gift you receive at Pentecost is not a personal spiritual experience. It is equipment for the people who need what you carry.
Jesus breathes on the disciples: receive the Holy Spirit. The breath of the Risen Lord. Then: as the Father sent me, so I send you. Pentecost is the sending feast. The Easter season ends and ordinary time begins, and the Spirit who filled the room sends you into yours.
One Prayer
Lord, fill me with your Spirit. As the Father sent you, send me - with whatever the people around me need. Come, Holy Spirit. Alleluia. Amen.
Your Challenge
To each manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. What do you carry that the people around you need? Not your preferences, not your strengths in general - the specific thing the Spirit has given you that the body around you lacks. Name it. Then use it this week.
You are not alone. Submit your intentions and they'll be carried to Holy Hour this Sunday.
