"On this mountain the LORD of hosts will provide for all peoples a feast." - Isaiah 25:6
Reflection
Isaiah pictures God setting a table on a mountain today, Sister, rich food, choice wine, and God himself wiping every tear from every face. It's not a table anyone had to earn a seat at. Jesus tells nearly the same story with a harder edge: a king throws a wedding feast, the invited guests refuse, and he sends his servants into the streets to bring in anyone they can find, good and bad, until the hall is full.
You are being filled so that something can be set on the table.
The one guest who runs into trouble isn't underqualified. He got in the same way everyone else did, for free. What trips him up is showing up without dressing for what he was actually invited to, treating the gift casually once he was already inside. Paul's second reading gives the quieter half of the same lesson: he's learned to be content whether he has plenty or little, because his peace was never tied to his circumstances in the first place.
Furnishing begins this week, and it starts here, at a table you didn't set yourself. Before anything gets asked of you, something gets given, seats filled, wine poured, tears wiped, by someone else's hand.
The garment the one guest is missing wasn't expensive or hard to obtain. It was provided at the door for anyone who wanted it. Being properly dressed for the feast isn't about earning your way in. It's about actually receiving what was already offered, rather than treating the invitation as background noise to whatever else you'd rather be doing.
The Challenge
Come to this week's Mass or prayer time dressed for it, not just present in body. Notice one specific way you can actually show up rather than just occupy a seat.
One Prayer
Lord, you've already prepared the feast. Let me show up for it, not just occupy the seat. Amen.
You are not alone. Submit your intentions and they'll be carried to Holy Hour this Sunday.
