Dear Catholic Parents,

Israel fell because the people stopped listening - "they did not listen to the voice of the Lord their God but violated his covenant" (2 Kings 17:7). Then the Gospel: "Stop judging, that you may not be judged... Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye?" (Matthew 7:1-3).

This week's news has a peace deal that required everyone to stop judging long enough to listen, a father in a tornado shelter who removed himself entirely so his family could live, and a man who spent his life pointing not at your sins but at Christ - and who is about to receive a new title.

📰 Quick Hits

1. US and Iran Agree on 60-Day Roadmap to a Final Peace Deal

Pakistan and Qatar, the two mediating nations, announced that the United States and Iran have formed an oversight committee and agreed to a "roadmap towards reaching a final deal within 60 days, laying the foundation for the immediate commencement of further technical talks." The announcement came after a tense weekend of continued Israeli strikes in Lebanon and threatening statements from President Trump. The framework is fragile. It is also the most hopeful development since the conflict began on February 28. The Church has maintained from the beginning that diplomatic solutions must be pursued before and during armed conflict. The 60-day clock has now started.

Faith Lens for the Home: "Stop judging, that you may not be judged." A peace deal requires every party to stop long enough to listen. Ask your family: "What does the Church say has to be true for a peace agreement to be genuinely just - not just for the US, but for Iran, for Israel, for Lebanon?" Pray for the negotiators and for the civilians on all sides who have been waiting for this moment since February.

2. Fulton Sheen Beatification Tickets Go On Sale This Week

Bishop Louis Tylka of the Diocese of Peoria announced that tickets for the beatification Mass of Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen will become available this week through celebratesheen.com. The beatification takes place on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 2 PM at The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis - presided over by Cardinal Luis Tagle as papal representative. A novena of Holy Hours at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Peoria begins September 15. For those of us in central and southern Illinois, this is not a pilgrimage to Rome - it is a drive down the highway to witness a man born in El Paso, Illinois, ordained in Peoria, become Blessed Fulton Sheen. He spent his career removing the beam from his own eye, pointing people not at their sins but at Christ, and saying every week to millions of Americans on national television: "Life is worth living."

Faith Lens for the Home: Get your tickets this week at celebratesheen.com. Then ask your family: "What do you know about Fulton Sheen? What did he say that still matters?" If your children don't know him, this week is the moment to introduce them. Play one of his talks on YouTube at dinner. Let him speak for himself. He is very good at it.

3. Tornadoes Tear Through Central Illinois and Indiana - Pray for Those Affected

A severe tornado outbreak struck central Illinois and northwest Indiana last week, producing at least 21 confirmed tornadoes in the Chicago National Weather Service area alone. In Effingham County, Illinois - just down the road from many Domus Daily readers - an "impactful tornado" traveled 12-15 miles through the northern part of the county, destroying homes, hurling vehicles, and triggering a cascade of emergencies. Andrean Catholic High School in Merrillville, Indiana sustained heavy structural damage. One Effingham father sheltered his family in the bathroom during the storm, his body over his children, and said afterward: "I didn't matter. If I had to lift the whole tree off the house, I would have saved them. There's no question. That was all that matters." June 2026 is shaping up as one of the most active severe weather months in recent memory. Another threat is possible later this week.

Faith Lens for the Home: That father in Effingham removed the beam from his own eye - removed himself entirely - so his family could live. Ask your family tonight: "What would our family do for each other in a moment like that?" Then pray specifically for the families in Effingham County, in Merrillville, in Charleston, and across central Illinois and Indiana who are rebuilding right now. Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Springfield is on the ground - find them at dio.org/catholiccharities.

⛪ Family Saint Spotlight

Sts. John Fisher and Thomas More - June 22

Two men who refused to remove the wrong beam. Fisher was an elderly bishop who had served Henry VIII faithfully for decades. More was a husband, father of four, former Lord Chancellor - the most powerful layman in England. Both were offered their lives in exchange for a public statement supporting the king's supremacy over the Church. Both refused. Fisher said at his execution: "I die for the faith of the Catholic Church." More said his last words were those of a man who was "the King's good servant, but God's first." They saw clearly because they had first removed the beam from their own eyes. They judged nothing except the one thing that could not be conceded.

Ask at dinner: "Thomas More was a father before he was a martyr. What do you think he told his children before he died? What would our family need from us in a moment like that?"
