2. 72 Dead as 60,000 Storm the Spanish Enclave of Ceuta - and the Church Is Already There

At least 72 migrants died over the weekend - many by drowning, others in a stampede - after an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 people surged across the border from Morocco into Ceuta, the small Spanish enclave on the northern tip of Africa. The surge - widely described by Spanish officials and European analysts as orchestrated by the Moroccan government as political pressure over Spain's recognition of Western Sahara - temporarily swelled Ceuta's population by more than half. 3. Twin Falls, Idaho: 3 Dead at In-N-Out - an Off-Duty Trooper and a Civilian Stopped It

On Saturday afternoon, 24-year-old Chad Williams opened fire at a newly opened In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, killing three people and injuring seven others. An In-N-Out employee was among those killed. An off-duty Idaho state trooper and an armed private citizen confronted Williams, driving him from the scene. Williams died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound nearby. Police Chief Matthew Hicks said at a news conference: "We believe these actions drove the suspect from the scene and prevented further casualties." The restaurant had been open barely a week. St. Lydia of Philippi - August 3

A dealer in purple cloth from Thyatira, mentioned in Acts 16 as the first person Paul baptized in Europe. She was already a worshiper of God when Paul found her group praying by the river outside Philippi on the Sabbath. She listened, and the Lord opened her heart. She and her whole household were baptized. Then she did the domestic church thing immediately: "If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my home." Paul did. The Church at Philippi - one of the most beloved communities in all of Paul's letters - began in Lydia's house. She is patron of dyers and cloth merchants, and of all who open their homes to the Gospel.

Ask at dinner: "Lydia opened her home to Paul and the Church began there. What would it look like for our home to be a place where faith actually begins for someone - a neighbor, a friend, a person who doesn't yet know what they're looking for?"
