Real Talk
Moses asks to see God's glory. What he sees is God's character: merciful, gracious, slow to anger, rich in kindness and fidelity. Moses immediately bows and asks: come with us. Your people are stiff-necked and we need you to come along anyway.
The eleven go to the mountain in Galilee. When they see the risen Jesus they worship - but some doubted. Matthew just says it, matter-of-factly. Jesus doesn't address the doubt. He gives the commission to the whole group: all power in heaven and earth is mine. Go and make disciples of all nations. Baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Teach them everything I commanded. I am with you always.
The doubt doesn't disqualify. The commission is given to the worshipers-and-doubters together. The going is what addresses the doubt, not the resolving it first.
One Prayer
Lord, all power in heaven and earth is yours. Go with me as the God who comes along with stiff-necked people. I am with you always - let me live from that. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in you. Amen.
Your Challenge
The commission is given to the doubters too. Name one concrete step this week in the going - one person, one conversation, one act of making-disciples that you have been waiting to do until you felt more certain. Take the step before the certainty arrives. The always-with is the promise, not the reward.
You are not alone. Submit your intentions and they'll be carried to Holy Hour this Sunday.
