Yesterday's Reflection

Tuesday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time

Reflection

Hezekiah spread the letter before the Lord. The prayer posture is the whole of the lesson: not the managed crisis, not the political strategy, not the suppressed fear. He brought the specific threat into the house of God and said: look at this. The adoration comes first - O Lord enthroned on the cherubim, you alone are God. Then the request: incline your ear, open your eyes, see what is written here. Save us so that all kingdoms may know it is you.

The narrow gate. In your twenties the wide road and narrow road are both clearly visible - and the culture has been pointing toward the wide road with great energy. The narrow gate is narrower partly because of what you have to leave at the entrance that the wide road does not require you to drop. But life is at the end of the narrow road.

Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. The golden rule applied from the inside: step into the other person's situation and ask what you would want. The whole ethical structure of the law and prophets stands on that single act of empathy-into-action.

The Challenge

Spread the letter before the Lord. Name the specific threat or taunt in your life right now - the thing that says God cannot help in this situation. Bring it to prayer with Hezekiah's words: open your eyes and see. And then wait for the 185,000.

One Prayer

Lord, you alone are God over every kingdom this situation represents. Open your eyes and see. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in you. Amen.
