Unprecedented wildfires are burning across southern France and Spain - the largest ever recorded in both countries. More than 4,000 firefighters are battling blazes that are resisting all efforts to contain them, fed by weeks of back-to-back heat waves and drought. The situation in France's Gironde has become surreal: the fire has grown so large it is generating its own weather. A pyrocumulonimbus - a massive black fire cloud - has formed above the blaze, a thunderstorm created entirely by extreme fire conditions whose lightning and wind further feed the flames. No rain is expected this week. Caritas and Catholic relief organizations in both countries are supporting evacuated families.

Faith Lens for the Home: A fire large enough to make its own storm. Creation is not fragile in the way we sometimes imagine - but it can be pushed past thresholds it cannot easily recover from. What does care for the earth look like in our household, practically?" Then pray for the firefighters, for the evacuated families, and for the communities in Gironde who have been through this before.

3. Fauci's Diary Is Published - and He Testifies Today

On Saturday, Senator Rand Paul published 1,141 pages of Dr. Anthony Fauci's private diary from 2019 through 2022. The most significant entry: January 2020, in which Fauci wrote that the Wuhan wet market "was not the source" of COVID-19 but "the amplifier" - language that differs meaningfully from his public statements at the time. Fauci supporters note a caveat in the same entry suggesting animal-to-human spillover. His critics say the private entry shows he knew more than he said publicly. The older sister of Mary and Lazarus, who ran the household in Bethany and welcomed Jesus when he visited. She is the one who complained to Jesus that her sister had left her to serve alone - and received a gentle correction. She is also the one who ran out to meet him on the road when Lazarus died, before he even reached the house, and spoke the confession the whole Church stands on: "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world." She did not wait for a calm moment. She said it through tears, in grief, while still angry that he had not arrived in time. She is patron of homemakers, cooks, servers, and all who bring order and hospitality to ordinary life.

Ask at dinner: "Martha confessed her faith in the worst moment of her life, not in a peaceful one. What does that tell us about what faith actually is - not a feeling, but something you can say out loud even when everything is terrible?"
