Vessel & Altar
We hold this treasure in earthen vessels.
Daily liturgical formation for Catholic women who pour out — and who need to be poured into. The vessel holds the treasure and pours it out. But the vessel also needs to be filled.

"Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it." - Luke 11:28
Reflection
A woman in the crowd calls out something today, Sister, that every mother would love to hear said about her child: blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts that nursed you. It's aimed straight at Mary, and it's true. Jesus doesn't correct it so much as widen it. Blessed, rather, are those who hear the word of God and keep it. Being someone's mother was never the whole of Mary's blessedness, even for Mary. Hearing and doing is available to anyone listening, in any family, in any century.
You are being filled so that something can be set on the table.
Notice what this does to how motherhood, or any caregiving role, gets measured. Being someone's mother, wife, sister, friend is real and good. It was never meant to be the entire measure of a woman's worth before God, and Jesus says so plainly, to a crowd that assumed otherwise.
Paul's first reading says something that lands right alongside it: through faith, everyone becomes a child of God, clothed with Christ, no longer ranked by the old categories that used to divide people into who mattered more. Blessedness isn't circumstance. It's hearing and doing, available to you specifically, today, regardless of what role currently defines your calendar.
A week closes tonight the way most weeks do, full of roles carried and needs met. Before it closes completely, ask what you actually heard this week, not what you managed, and whether you've done anything with it yet.
The Challenge
Pray the Angelus today, at noon or in the evening, and let it be a moment where you're simply hearing the word, not managing anyone or anything while you do it.
One Prayer
Lord, let me be blessed the way you describe it, not just by the roles I carry but by actually hearing your word and living it. Amen.
