"Settle the matter on the way." - Luke 12:58
Reflection
Jesus says people are skilled, Sister, at reading the weather and blind to their own moment. Settle what's fixable now, he says, before it costs far more than it would have cost you later. Paul's first reading gives the gentler half: bear with one another in love.
You are being filled so that something can be set on the table.
Most homes carry a small, unsettled debt somewhere, a moment that went wrong and never got fully cleared, a tension quietly managed around rather than actually addressed. It's easier to keep the peace by letting it sit. Jesus's advice is uncomfortable and practical: the longer it sits, the heavier it gets.
Bearing with someone and settling something honestly aren't opposites. Patience for what genuinely needs patience can coexist with actually fixing what's fixable, and today's a fair day to ask which unsettled thing has been sitting longest in your own house.
Most women are already skilled at bearing with things. The harder skill, the one worth practicing today, is knowing when patience has quietly become avoidance, and choosing to actually settle the matter instead of simply enduring it one more week.
The Challenge
Name the longest-unsettled tension in a close relationship right now. Take one real step to address it this week, even if it's just a short, honest first conversation rather than a full resolution.
One Prayer
Lord, give me the patience to bear what needs bearing, and the honesty to settle what's actually fixable. Amen.
