Sister, so much of what a woman gives to her family is invisible while it's happening. The conversation at bedtime nobody else heard. The patience you found on the day you didn't think you had any left. The prayer you said for someone who never knew you said it. None of it shows up on a chart. Most of it doesn't show up for years, if ever, in any way you get to see.

Paul says something today that's easy to read past: the one who plants and the one who waters are one - they're working the same field, toward the same end, and neither of them is the reason anything actually grows. That's not a small thing to hear if you've spent years wondering whether what you're doing is enough, or whether the family that looks more put-together down the street is doing it right and you're not.

You are not responsible for the growth. You never were. You're responsible for the planting and the watering, done faithfully, on days when it felt like it was going nowhere. What comes up later - and it does come up, usually later than you'd have chosen and different from what you'd have predicted - belongs to God. It always did.

Name one thing you've been watering for years without any visible growth - a relationship, a habit you're trying to instill, a prayer for someone specific. Say out loud, to God, that you are releasing the outcome. Keep watering anyway.

Lord, I plant, I water, and so much of what I do disappears from view before I ever see what it becomes. Let that be enough. The growth was always yours to give. Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us. Amen.
