Vessel & Altar
We hold this treasure in earthen vessels.
Daily liturgical formation for Catholic women who pour out — and who need to be poured into. The vessel holds the treasure and pours it out. But the vessel also needs to be filled.

Reflection
Jesus tells an unsettling story today, Sister, about a house that gets cleaned out and left empty, only to have something worse move in because nothing good was chosen to fill the space on purpose. Emptiness doesn't stay empty. Something occupies it, whether or not anyone actually decided what that something would be.
You are being filled so that something can be set on the table.
A lot of a woman's real, hard work is exactly this kind of clearing: breaking a habit, ending a draining relationship, finally saying no to something that had quietly taken over. All of that clearing is genuinely good. The reading's warning is about what comes after the clearing, the part that gets skipped when the relief of finally being free feels like the whole accomplishment.
Paul's first reading gives a candidate for what belongs in the cleared space: the blessing given to Abraham, received through faith rather than earned by more effort. Not another obligation to fill the freed-up time. Something genuinely good, chosen rather than defaulted into.
If you've recently cleared something out of your life, a habit, a relationship, an old way of managing everyone else's needs before your own, ask honestly what's actually moved into that space now. The clearing was real work. What fills it afterward still needs to be chosen.
Margin itself is a legitimate answer, not a failure to fill the space with something productive. Paul's reading tonight offers Abraham's blessing as something received rather than earned, and rest can be received the same way, chosen on purpose instead of treated as one more thing to feel behind on.
The Challenge
Name one space you've recently cleared in your life. Choose deliberately, today, what belongs there instead of letting it fill by default.
One Prayer
Lord, don't let what I've cleared out get filled by accident. Help me choose what belongs there, on purpose. Amen.
