Vessel & Altar
We hold this treasure in earthen vessels.
Daily liturgical formation for Catholic women who pour out — and who need to be poured into. The vessel holds the treasure and pours it out. But the vessel also needs to be filled.

"I am fearfully, wonderfully made; wonderful are your works." - Psalm 139:14
Reflection
Sister, yesterday you were carried. Today the psalm says how you were made. Truly you have formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother's womb. The vessel was formed on purpose, and carefully, before anyone asked what it could hold.
You are being filled so that something can be set on the table.
Most women spend years being valued for use. The one who drives, the one who remembers, the one who cooks and mends and calls. Use is real, and it matters. Yet the psalm speaks first about form. You were knit before you were useful. God made the vessel before anyone decided what to put in it.
The psalmist adds that this is known. You know when I sit and when I stand. You understand my thoughts from afar. You are not a blank other people fill in. You are a person God has been watching with care. A vessel that knows it was made on purpose does not need to prove it is valuable by being full every hour.
Job gives the other side of the same truth. God asks him where he was when the world was laid down, and Job has nothing to say. The one who formed you did not need your advice. You are what he intended.
The Challenge
Name one thing your body did for you or for someone else today, however ordinary, and thank God for it out loud. It can be a walk, a meal, a hand held, a night's sleep. Say only thank you.
One Prayer
Lord, you knit me together before I could do anything. Let me rest in having been made, and let what fills me become something I can set out for others. Amen.
