Vessel & Altar
We hold this treasure in earthen vessels.
Daily liturgical formation for Catholic women who pour out - and who need to be poured into. The vessel holds the treasure and pours it out. But the vessel also needs to be filled.

"The souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them." - Wisdom 3:1
Reflection
Today the Church remembers every soul still on the way home, and Wisdom gives the plainest comfort there is for a woman who has lost someone: they are in the hand of God, and no torment touches them there. Not almost safe. Held, now, by someone who does not drop what he holds.
This is the day your own vessel opens something that will run the rest of the month - a small book of names, each one written down and prayed for specifically instead of mourned only in general. Paul's second reading gives the reason it matters to name them one at a time: we were buried with Christ in baptism, so that we too might live a new life. Every name in that book belongs to someone baptized into that same death and that same promised life.
You are being carried home by every prayer still said for you, and those who went before you are being carried home by your prayers.
That's the whole logic of tonight's practice, Sister - not a burden added to your prayer life, but the other half of what you already are. A vessel was never only for receiving. It was always also for carrying.
Notice what Wisdom says the foolish get wrong: they mistake departure for destruction, an ending for an erasure. A vessel who has grieved someone knows exactly that temptation - to let absence read as annihilation instead of as distance still being closed.
Jesus closes with the plainest promise available: everyone who believes in the Son should have eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. Write a name tonight, and believe that promise applies to the person you're writing.
The Challenge
Write one name in a notebook tonight, and pray "eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord" over it. Add a name most nights this month, not only tonight.
One Prayer
Lord, hold the names I write this month in your hand, the way Wisdom says you hold the souls of the just. Let no torment touch them. Amen.
