"Stretch out your hand." He did so and his hand was restored. - Luke 6:10

Sister, the man in today's Gospel doesn't get healed privately, gently, with time to prepare. Jesus asks him to stand up in front of everyone and stretch out the hand he's spent who knows how long protecting and hiding. The healing happens in the same moment as the exposure. There's no version of this where he gets restored without also being seen.

That's worth noticing if you've ever waited to deal with something until you felt ready, safe, unobserved. Sometimes restoration doesn't wait for the private moment. It asks you to stretch out the very thing you've been guarding, in front of whoever happens to be watching, trusting that what's revealed will be healed rather than judged.

Paul's warning in the first reading is really about the same instinct in reverse - the temptation to let something stay hidden, quietly tolerated, because naming it feels riskier than leaving it alone. A little yeast leavens all the dough. What you don't bring into the light eventually shapes everything around it anyway, just slower and less visibly.

Name one thing you've been keeping hidden or protected - out of caution, shame, or habit - that might actually need to be stretched out into the open. You don't have to resolve it today. Just notice where you've been guarding rather than trusting.

Lord, you asked a man to stretch out the very hand he'd spent years protecting, and he was healed in the same breath he was seen. Give me that same trust - to bring what I've been hiding into your light, even before I know how it will be received. Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us. Amen.
