"Whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." - Matthew 16:25

Jesus gave this teaching to ordinary disciples in ordinary life, not to martyrs. Deny yourself, take up your cross, follow. Whoever tries to save their life will lose it; whoever loses it for his sake will find it.

Many women carry this verse from the inside of a life that has been substantially given away - to children, to households, to the care of people who needed things and you were there to give them. The losing has been real and daily, not dramatic. It has often not felt like faith. It has felt like an ordinary day.

Nahum's city thought it was winning right up until it wasn't. Everything accumulated, everything protected, everything made safe - and in the end, stripped and abandoned. Even a quiet domestic life can be built on the Nineveh model - protecting the self, managing the cost, keeping what there is - while looking identical from the outside to a life of following.

Sister, the things you have lost in following - the career set aside, the time spent on children who didn't thank you, the marriage that cost what it cost - are the inventory of the finding. Jesus described exactly this.

Name one thing you have given away in the course of following - lost, not by accident but by choice, because the following required it. Sit with what it cost for a moment. Then say Jesus's word over it: whoever loses their life for my sake will find it. That includes this specific thing.

Lord, here is what I have lost in following you. I am trusting the finding. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us. Amen.
