Court proceedings in London revealed Tuesday that Ann Widdecombe - the 78-year-old former British Conservative MP, pro-life champion, and Catholic convert - was struck 21 times with a hammer by a man who entered her home while she was eating lunch in July 9. She was found dead the following day in her kitchen in Devon. A 28-year-old man named Joshua Kerry has been charged with murder. Pope Francis elevated her feast from optional to obligatory memorial in 2016. She is patron of penitents, contemplatives, and hairdressers. She did not leave. That is the whole of her.

Ask at dinner: "Mary Magdalene did not leave when it cost her everything to stay. Is there something in our family's life - a commitment, a relationship, a vocation - where the faithful thing is simply to stay? What would help us stay?"
